Everything you need to know about RubyWriter
Credits are used each time you send a message to the AI. The cost starts at just 5 credits — and even a simple prompt can get a surprising amount done.
What 5 credits gets you:
For just 5 credits, the AI can change your color scheme, update page content, add or remove a section, rename a database column, or restyle your buttons — all in a single prompt. One message, multiple changes across your app.
Yes! When you sign up you can start building right away — no subscription required. The free tier includes 1 project, 5 free credits per day (up to 30 per month), plus access to the code editor, ERD viewer, and GitHub push.
You can also purchase Starter credit packs anytime without subscribing. When you're ready for more projects and monthly credits, upgrade to a paid plan.
Every RubyWriter account — including free — comes with a live preview, click-to-edit, code editor, ERD viewer, GitHub push, and 5 free credits per day (up to 30/month). Paid plans add more projects, monthly credits, and additional perks:
- Free — 1 project. Build and iterate with daily credits, or purchase Starter credit packs anytime. Apps sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity.
- Starter ($9/month) — 5 projects and 100 credits/month on top of your daily free credits. Apps sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity.
- Pro ($49/month) — 10 projects, 150 credits/month, custom domains, priority support, and apps stay awake for 60 minutes.
- Agency ($99/month) — unlimited projects, 200 credits/month, apps that never sleep, and the best per-credit pack rates.
All paid plans can purchase additional credit packs at volume discounts. Higher tiers get better per-credit rates.
There are three types of credits, each with different rules:
- Free daily credits — 5 per day, reset each day, capped at 30 per month. Used first.
- Plan credits — reset each billing cycle. Unused plan credits don't carry over.
- Purchased credits — never expire and carry over across billing cycles. Used last.
When you send a prompt, free credits are used first, then plan credits, then purchased credits — so your paid credits last as long as possible.
RubyWriter generates Ruby on Rails 8 applications. You can build anything Rails supports — blogs, marketplaces, dashboards, CRM tools, project management apps, and more. The AI uses Rails generators, DaisyUI components, and Hotwire for interactive features.
It's great for building MVPs, prototypes, internal tools, and learning Rails. However, it's not designed for generating complex custom business logic or replacing a skilled Rails developer, but it can handle a wide range of common features and patterns out of the box. It is a great starting point for developers and agencies that want to a proof of concept out the door or quickly scaffold a new project, then customize and extend it as needed.
Yes! All plans — including free — can push projects directly to a GitHub repository. The generated code is clean, idiomatic Rails — you own it completely and can deploy it anywhere (Heroku, Render, Fly.io, your own server).
When you describe a feature, the AI plans the implementation and executes it autonomously — running Rails generators, creating and modifying files, and running commands inside your project's Docker container. It iterates until the feature is complete, then commits the changes. You see the results live in the preview panel.
Yes, you can cancel anytime from your account settings. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. Any purchased credits remain available after cancellation.
